History: A Legacy Restored

The Plume House Inn is a living tribute to Thomaston’s golden age, built in 1884 as a grand Queen Anne-style sanctuary for the managers of the Plume & Atwood Manufacturing Company. This legacy began in 1853 when Seth Thomas built a brass mill to supply his world-renowned clock factory, a mill that was eventually sold to David Scott Plume and his partners under a historic agreement to continue fueling the production of every Seth Thomas timepiece. Today, we honor this heritage of "History, Honey, and Home" by blending the "Clock Town" spirit with our own award-winning hospitality, inviting guests to experience a "Norman Rockwell" stay amidst the ticking of original clocks and the warm glow of P&A lanterns.

You can feel this rich past in every room, from the grand, hand-carved wooden fireplaces adorned with period-accurate globes and Seth Thomas clocks to the original "butler call" bells hidden in the floorboards. As only the fourth family to own this home, we’ve made it our mission to honor those who came before us, meticulously flipping original brass hinges to reveal their hidden ornate beauty and hand-stenciling walls to reflect Victorian elegance.

Honey: The Sweetness of the Valley

To us, hospitality is "scratch-made." We believe the best things in life aren't found in a store, but in the heart of the home. Our guests enjoy a true taste of the Naugatuck Valley with:

  • Our Own Honey: Harvested directly from our backyard hives and filtered by hand.

  • Teacup Fairy Treasures: Our tea service features a beautiful, mismatched collection of vintage porcelain, often left on our porch by anonymous neighbors we affectionately call our "Teacup Fairies".

  • Hand-Blended Teas: Custom blends perfected with our grandchildren, featuring our signature "Plume House Original" which has flavors of soft fruits and fragrant flowers and our newest breakfast blend, "Blueberry Pancake" with tastes of blueberry and maple.

  • Farm-to-Table Breakfasts: Fresh eggs from our family's local chicken coop, and blueberries picked from our own bushes and seasonal vegetables and herbs from our backyard garden.

Home:

Our Little Norman Rockwell Town

We have called Thomaston home since we were married in 1979. We raised our children here, and now we watch our grandchildren grow in the place we’ve always referred to as our “little Norman Rockwell town”.

We didn't just open a Bed & Breakfast; we opened our home. Whether you are curling up on a tufted Victorian settee with a furry friend or admiring the authentic P&A lanterns that cast a warm glow over the parlor, we want you to feel like family. Our greatest joy—and the reason we were named one of the Best of CT 2025 by CT Insider—is treating our guests like royalty and providing a timeless home away from home.
